Musical Activation: Translating Oscillations, co-curated by Jared Maxilom, Halo-Halo Experiment and memoryall

All welcome, pre-registration encouraged

Translating Oscillations: Activations is a series of sonic and performative responses to the curatorial project Translating Oscillations, conceived by Assembly member Jared Maxilom as part of the Youth Takeover 2025. Curated in collaboration with independent multidisciplinary artist collective Halo-Halo Experiment, these activations invite artists and musicians to reflect on sound’s capacity to translate, reverberate and transform across disciplines and identities.

Imagine a painter painting their self-portrait—now imagine a sound artist doing the same through frequencies, loops and layers. In each activation, participating artists respond to themes of resonance, compression, expansion and identity fragmentation through improvisation, live sampling and sonic reinterpretation. These performances are not static—they unfold as durational pieces, building new meaning through feedback, glitch and variation.

Visual multimedia studio memoryall will accompany the activations with live visuals and projection mapping, visually rendering the ephemeral energy of each sonic performance. This dialogue between sound and light transforms the performance area into an immersive node—alive, reactive and ever-changing.

Translating Oscillations: Activations also welcomes interdisciplinary collaborators—poets, performers and visual artists—to extend the sonic language into gesture, movement and metaphor—a responsive archive. Each activation serves as a speculative portrait, a fragment of memory rewritten through collective embodiment.

The space remains activated beyond the performance, looping excerpts of the sonic sets throughout the duration of the exhibition. These echoes continue to engage audiences long after the initial performance, inviting repeat encounters and deep listening.

Activation Schedule:
May 10 – Mckie Alvarez
May 17 – Madam Void
May 24 – Joe Najm
May 31 – PHO
