Job Description

Art Jameel takes an entrepreneurial, dynamic approach to its funding strategies, aiming for a diversified, long-term approach that builds sustainability for its not-for-profit programmes. The Enterprises Manager’s role is fundamental to achieving this ambition. Based in Dubai with flexibility to travel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Enterprises Manager reports to Art Jameel’s Deputy Director/Head of Strategy and Development and leads efforts to expand existing Art Jameel enterprises while identifying new opportunities to diversify and grow Art Jameel’s income streams. The role has a particular focus on leading Art Jameel shop’s global expansion as well as seeking and managing new Art Jameel Consultancy projects.

The role would suit a seasoned project manager with a self-starter, entrepreneurial attitude – someone with strong business acumen and a keen interest in design and creativity. Responsibilities include driving the next phase of Art Jameel Shop’s growth and its online expansion, solidifying its position as the leading platform for publications by independent publishers and for unique and innovative designs by regional and international artists. The role requires careful strategic planning and commercial acumen, plus strong leadership and motivational skills to inspire team members to set and meet targets. With a minimum of 5 years’ experience, ideally gained within a managerial position, this role demands analytical skills to delve into detailed financial models and presentation skills to develop internal senior management documents and pitch documents. Experience of working in the UAE or Gulf is beneficial.

This role reports to the Head of Strategy and Development/Deputy Director

Responsibilities and Duties

Art Jameel Shop

  • Design comprehensive retail strategies, including artistic direction, product selection, pricing and stock control, visual merchandising, and sales promotion for both physical and digital retail platforms
  • Oversee retail team operations including consignment agreements, inventory stock management, performance evaluation, retail pop-ups and Shop programmes
  • Organise shop operations across different channels and allocate responsibilities to retail staff as well as supervise/ guide them towards maximum performance
  • Maximise profitability and setting/meeting sales targets, including motivating retail staff to do so
  • Cultivate a network of designers and collaborators and keep abreast of the latest art and design publications
  • Implement promotional strategies for attracting more customers through liaising with the Art Jameel’s communications and retail teams
  • Overseeing online shop data collection and uploads, ensuring new products are always highlighted and the website is up to date with new arrivals and ongoing exhibitions at the Centre
  • Grow the Shop’s platform by leading the yearly open call by drafting the invitation, going through applications, selecting the winners and following up on their project while maintaining the relationship with the support of the Shop manager
  • Liaising with the heads of departments to make sure the Shop is always included in outreach initiatives and public programmes

Art Jameel Consulting

  • Liaise with third parties, contributing to pitches and relationship-management  
  • Compile and present information orally, visually and in writing; determine and define project scope and objectives
  • Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner
  • Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements
  • Set and manage project budgets
  • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
  • Monitor development and provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress 
  • Manage contracts with collaborators/suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
  • Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement

Other Enterprises and responsibilities

  • Manage existing Art Jameel enterprises and budgets and launch new third party projects, from strategic advisory through to developing support for education and public programmes 
  • Analyse financial performance through running quarterly performance reports to derive insights and identify new strategies and targets
  • Preparing promotional materials and visual/digital presentations

Requirements
