Senior Accountant
Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai

Job Description 

The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounts Manager and is part of the Dubai-based finance team. The Senior Accountant prepares and posts journal entries, payment vouchers, bank reconciliations, maintains accounts receivable and accounts payable, and performs stock and cash counts for the various departments. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for all Art Jameel Shop-related matters, such as processing invoices and maintaining control of stock additions and disposals.

Accountability 

This role reports to the Accounts Manager

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare all journal entries, including the recurring monthly journal entries through the established accounting system
  • Work closely with various departments on processing purchase orders as per the defined workflow
  • Prepare payment and receipt vouchers through the accounting system
  • Maintain controls of the company budget, including OPEX, Non-OPEX, and CAPEX
  • Monitor stock controls, purchases, retail sales processing, and physical count procedures of Art Jameel Shop
  • Maintain controls and follow up on account receivables, as well as comparison of supporting documents at month-end (detailed A/R schedules, Aging analysis, schedules of computations etc.) 
  • Maintain controls of fixed asset movement in line with the approved budget
  • Preparation of daily cash reports for Art Jameel Shop and finance cash safe
  • Preparation of weekly cash summary reports in coordination with direct manager
  • Preparation and presentation of weekly payables and aging reports 
  • Preparation of monthly reconciliation statements
  • Support with the preparation of monthly closing and reporting as per deadlines
  • Support with the preparation of annual budget and supporting schedules
  • Support with the preparation of annual closing and audit procedures
  • Support with all ad-hoc tasks requested by the top management
  • Master local accounting standards, IFRS, Tax, and other laws in the UAE
  • Report and analyse irregularities, misstatements, and abnormalities

 Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree equivalent to a Bachelor of Science – Business, with an emphasis in Accounting
  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in Finance / Internal Audit with a reputable company OR external auditing within an Audit firm (Big 4 type)
  • Analytical approach and ability to identify errors in documentation and suggest improvements and solutions
  • High level of organisational skills, including handling various documents and  accurate record-keeping
  • Knowledge of programmes such as Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to discuss reports and data trends  
  • Prior experience working with MS Dynamics 365 Purchase Order system preferred
