Job Description

Art Jamel aims to be at the forefront of new ideas in Human Resources and dynamic people-management; our programmatic focus on creating opportunities through the arts for life-long learning “begins at home” — with the Art Jameel team itself. The Senior Manager, People is a new position reflective of Art Jameel’s growing team and mandate; the role is based in Dubai but has a global purview and includes oversight of a 60-strong team based in Jeddah and Dubai. The role involves managing all aspects of human resources including recruitment, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance with legal requirements, plus devising (with the senior leadership team) and running a new, comprehensive learning and development programme for the team, which includes a renewed focus on training, placements and local/international exchange. The Senior Manager, People oversees the HR Coordinator in Saudi Arabia and PRO in Dubai and works closely with department managers to ensure that Art Jameel attracts, retains and develops a highly skilled and engaged workforce.


Accountability

This role reports to the Director of Art Jameel.


Responsibilities and Duties

Art Jameel Global (across all sites)

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that support Art Jameel’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to department managers and team on all HR-related matters, including performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and training and development
  • Update and at times devise policies and procedures; with the senior leadership, lead on drafting and maintaining a new guide to Art Jameel’s organisational and team values
  • Analyse HR metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement and best practices
  • Liaise with legal and finance departments to ensure compliance with all legal and financial requirements related to human resources management, including labour laws, immigration regulations, and health and safety standards
  • Develop and manage the HR budget, including forecasting and reporting
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including government authorities, industry associations, and service providers
  • Set calendar dates for Training (x2) and Revive (x3) days each year, alongside other global and local team meetings, get-togethers and events, working with the team and department leaders in advance to take advantage of the programme 
  • Partner with department managers to identify and map future workforce needs and develop strategies to attract, retain and develop a highly skilled and engaged workforce
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and dynamic team engagement, learning, development, secondment, exchange and retention programme that aligns with Art Jameel’s goals as an organisation
  • Act as a change agent, driving cultural transformation and continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation; be at the forefront of new debates in HR and team development, globally and locally
  • Manage the Public Relation Officer (PRO, based in Dubai) and the HR Coordinator (based in Jeddah), providing coaching, training and feedback as needed

Art Jameel Dubai

  • Manage the recruitment process fully, including posting job vacancies, screening resumes, conducting interviews and supporting leadership in making hiring decisions
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the employee life cycle, including recruitment, on/off-boarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and training and development
  • Manage the day-to-day of all aspects of Human Resources management, often working closely with finance, including on payroll
  • Maintain and development systems to organise, archive and update regularly all HR-related files, including employee files, Team Handbooks, Review notes, career and training tracking documents, and so on
  • Devise and manage internship, docent and volunteer programmes

Art Jameel Jeddah

  • Oversee and advise the HR Coordinator in the recruitment process (posting job vacancies, screening resumes, conducting interviews); support leadership in making hiring decisions
  • Oversee and guide all aspects of the employee life cycle, including recruitment, on/off-boarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and training and development
  • Oversee the HR Coordinator’s management of filing systems for the Saudi team and HR-related documents and handbooks, ensuring as much uniformity as possible across sites
  • Oversee and support the HR Coordinator in delivering internship, docent and volunteer programmes


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in human resources management, with at least 3 years in a senior HR role
  • Experience working in the culture, creative, academic or non-profit sector is a plus, as is experience of (or a particular openness to) a flexible, diverse workplace that aims to draw out talent and provide opportunities for every team member equally
  • Demonstrable knowledge of local labour laws and regulations in the UAE; knowledge of KSA labour laws is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills; experience in balancing emotional intelligence – and an empathetic and considered approach – with fairness and adherence to set team goals, values and collaborative ways of working
  • Ability to think strategically, analyse data and make informed decisions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems
