Artist Led Session: Mark Making with Yehia O.

Mark making is one of the most powerful tools an artist can learn. This workshop introduces participants to mark making on the canvas as a tool to relay information from the painting subject to the canvas through an observant and selective approach.

Participants delve into their own visual perception to uncover what types of information resonate with them personally. The session challenges the notion that every detail must be included to produce a successful artwork, instead encouraging the processes of making and the addition of only the right amount of information to create poetic, meaningful imagery. Throughout the session, participants develop observational skills to analyse shapes and colours in their simplest forms, enabling them to use marks to create a sense of depth and distance in their paintings.

By the end of the workshop, participants understand how mark making highlights or softens details, allowing them to work with intention and confidence. They practise selecting which tones and shapes to emphasise while creating mental space for creativity and experimentation. This mindful approach helps remove the pressure to include everything, freeing artists to express what they truly want to convey.

This workshop forms part of our enriching art programme for adults, fostering deep engagement through hands-on experiences that challenge and inspire. No prior art experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.

This is a paid workshop and is suitable for individuals aged 15+.
