Candice Lin: Night Stone
In ‘Night Stone’, a large one-room installation, Candice Lin connects the contemporary trade of manganese between Australia and China to the 18th-century commerce of sea cucumbers. Intrigued by the sea cucumbers’ unique digestive and respiratory systems, Candice Lin imagines and depicts their toxic encounter with manganese and the surprising bodily transformations that follow.
The exhibition marks Candice Lin’s first solo presentation in West Asia. Originally commissioned by the Biennale of Sydney and Monash University Museum of Art | MUMA in Melbourne, the installation is accompanied by new ceramic sculptures, textile works and a site-specific mural.
