Jameel Arts Centre holds together a series of tours and workshops for children. The workshops feature a guided tour of the galleries and a discovery journey of artworks followed by creative hands-on activities, unique to each visit and led by artists and educators.
Sessions are free to attend with advance registration required. Register by emailing learning@artjameel.org. Limited spaces are available.
This workshop led by artist Asma Khoory, is inspired by Sarah Abu Abdallah‘s solo exhibition For the First Time in a Long Time, currently on display at the Jameel Arts Centre.
Referencing Sarah’s large-scale painting, the workshop incorporates working with black backgrounds and elements of collage. Participants are invited to draw their own neighbourhoods and collaborate to connect them with other participants’ creation towards the end of the session forming a small community together.
This activity focuses on collaging, imagination, artistic and collaborative skills.
Asma Khoory is an artist born in Dubai, she graduated in 2017 with a BFA from Zayed University, and in 2018 she was part of the fifth cohort of The Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artist Fellowship in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been exhibited both locally and internationally, at Meem Gallery, Warehouse 421, Al Serkal Avenue, Jameel Arts Center, Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam, and Southeast Missouri State University.
Asma’s artistic practice revolves around themes of manufactured time, human relations and conversations, social ideologies, and collective memory through the mediums of painting, mixed materials, and sculpture.
