Family Workshop: Nature in Shadows by Sana Waqar

Jameel Arts Centre offers various workshops for all ages including the popular family workshops. These sessions foster an inclusive environment where participants of all ages can engage and learn collectively.

This workshop includes a guided tour of two upcoming public art commissions; the imaginative, interactive playscape I Dreamt of a City Everyone Calls Home by Theories of Imagination, consisting of artist-architect Noor Alwan and artist-designer Abdulla Buhijji, and Taraabot: Weaving a Living Forum, a pavilion showcasing UAE’s biodiversity by Adib Dada and the OtherDada.

In this exciting workshop, artist Sana Waqar guides families in a collaborative exploration with nature to create distinctive abstract drawings.

Participants explore sculptures, trees and plants surrounding the colonnade of Jameel Arts Centre and the Jaddaf Waterfront and Sculpture Park, and employ techniques such as shadow drawing, layering and repetition to create interesting visuals.

Families learn to incorporate elements of nature and capture shadows while creating drawings that are both abstract and suggestive. The activities allow participants to unleash their creativity through exploring various drawing sequences that stimulate hand-eye coordination.

This workshop is free-to-attend and suitable for families of all ages. Early registration is advised as spaces are limited.

No prior art experience is required. All materials and equipment are provided.
