In 2093, filmmaker Kuve travels to Umata to document the aftermath of a war that revived ancient kingdoms. There, he meets Mumbi, who challenges him to make his film without AI. As Kuve searches for his own voice, he begins to understand that even in a broken world, beauty can be found in small human moments we often overlook. A thrilling work of speculative cinema that draws deeply on past cinematic tradition, Memories of Princess Mumbi asks what it means to bear witness — and what is at stake when we surrender that act to machines.

Following the screening, Hind Mezaina will be in conversation with filmmaker Amirah Tajdin. Audiences are invited to engage in collective viewing, stay for the conversation, and enjoy refreshments available throughout the evening.

Amirah Tajdin is an artist and filmmaker known for a strong visual style that blends reality and fiction in both her commercial and cinematic work over the past decade. Her extensive commercial portfolio includes campaigns for brands like Cadillac, Pepsi, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. She is a Sundance Institute fellow, the first Kenyan director selected for both the Screenwriters (2017) and Director’s (2018) Labs. Her short film Marea di Tierra was in competition at Sundance (2016) and Cannes Director’s Fortnight (2015). Tajdin co-founded the indie production company SEVEN THIRTY Films with her sister, producer Wafa Tajdin. She is represented for commercials by RadicalMedia and Loveboat.

Hind Mezaina is an artist, film curator and writer from Dubai. Her interests lie in cinema, cities, visual culture, collective memory and archives. As an artist she works primarily in analogue photography and lately with moving image. She has been exhibited locally and internationally, including Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art, Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj, Jameel Arts Centre, Nadežda Petrović Art Gallery, London Short Film Festival, Alternative Film/Video, and Safar Film Festival. As a film curator, she has programmed screenings for art institutions in the UAE including Louvre Abu Dhabi, NYUAD Art Gallery, Sharjah Art Foundation, The Africa Institute, and Jameel Arts Centre. She launched The Culturist Film Club in 2022 and hosts screenings at various venues in Dubai. The film club is an offshoot of her blog theculturist.com which she started in 2009 where you can find her writings.
