To mark the opening of ‘Eltiqa: How to Work Together ?’ join us for an engaging conversation around the history and collaborative practices of the artist collective Eltiqa, founded in Gaza City in 2000. For over two decades, Eltiqa members have cultivated artistic practices together, establishing a dedicated exhibition and workshop space in Gaza City and nurturing younger generations of artists through workshops and exhibitions, and by creating a space for dialogue and collaboration.
The evening will begin with a conversation between Eltiqa members Dina Matar and Mohammed Al-Hawajri, with exhibition curator Yazan Khalili (as part of The Question of Funding collective), around Eltiqa’s early days, their strategies for the continual production and circulation of their works locally and internationally, as well as the role of the Eltiqa Gallery within the arts ecology of Gaza. This conversation will be in Arabic.
Following this, Yazan Khalili will be in conversation with Dr. Martin Heller around cultivating support networks for artists, in the framework of the Lumbung Gallery Collective, set up to support artists following documenta 15. Together, they will explore selected artworks from the exhibition and the structures of support that safeguarded them and sustained the collective through political, social, economic, and personal challenges. This conversation will be in English.
The exhibition will be open and accessible from 6 – 9pm.
