Reading Group: ArtEd – Session 3

Jameel Library Reading Groups continue with another session of ArtEd. In this iteration, participants delve into texts and other materials that expand on Art education within both global and regional contexts.

In this session, participants will be reading from Ad Land by Mark Tungate and a supplementary text. The session is led in English by Professor of Advertising (Creative) Dina Faour. The discussion will be directed as an examination of the text within a local educational context, focusing on teaching creative advertising and the integration of contextual components into a curriculum. The reading groups are free and open to all.

Registration is required, as space is limited. Registered participants are expected to commit to the reading material and to attend the session they have registered to maintain a respectful, informed and open discursive environment.

Dina Faour is a professor of advertising(creative) and outreach coordinator of the Visual Communication Department at the American University in Dubai. She holds a Master’s degree in Digital Design from Griffith University and a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from the American University of Beirut. With over a decade of industry experience in Beirut, Brisbane and Dubai, she transitioned to academia in 2008. She served as a member of the Board of Directors for the International Advertising Association, UAE chapter (IAA UAE), and is now the President of the Middle East Design Educators Association (MEDEA) and Chapter Lead for SheSays Dubai, supporting women in the creative industries. Her research interests range from mythology in brand identities, gendered language in Arabic copywriting and higher education curriculum design and cultural diversity.
