This session led by artist Natalaya Koforti is an introduction to upcycling. Participants upcycle discarded packaging into custom-made artwork using traditional quilting patterns and embroidery technique including the “blanket stitch”.
The session is preceded by a short tour of the current exhibitions at Jameel Arts Centre.
Key session takeaways focus on thinking about single-use plastic, upcycling and creativity.
Natalya Konforti is a veteran of the fast fashion industry and has spent a decade designing collections for high street retailers across Europe, North America and China; which sparked a desire to shift towards more creative and sustainable projects. Natalya launched Glitches & Stitches in 2017 to promote the value of artisanal craftsmanship and the importance of having a creative outlet through interactive workshops and tutorials aiming to “help design junkies become self-sufficient”.
