Join Jameel Library for a workshop led by researcher Samar Halloum on 29 June, 2025, at 11:00am, as part of the public programmes for Jameel Library Circles at Jameel Arts Centre.
Samar Halloum, a Palestinian architect and educator, will begin the session with a presentation on her research methodology, developed through her fieldwork and interviews in Dheisheh Refugee Camp in Palestine. Her research examines how displaced communities influence the built environment over time through oral history, communal practices and spatial adaptations to trace the continuity of the Musha’ system from Palestinian highland villages into refugee camps.
The two-hour workshop invites participants to engage in the active process of observing, analysing, inquiring and interpreting the photo-documentation produced through Samar’s fieldwork research in Dheisheh Refugee Camp. Through writing exercises and open discussion, the session encourages reflection on non-singular authorship and personal and collective meaning created in the reading of spaces, images and research.
The session is open to all and encourages active participation. Please arrive at the Library 15 minutes prior and check in at the library desk.

Samar Halloum holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University and is currently an Assistant Professor at the American University of Sharjah. She previously served as the Design and Research Lead for the National Pavilion UAE at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia.
