Workshop: Visual Dissecting by Shamma Khoory and Rashid Almehiri

Visual Dissecting is an in-depth workshop focused on the fundamentals of visual communication, led by Rashid Almheiri and Shamma Khoory. Designed for adults and young people aged 15 and up, the session begins with a guided gallery walk of Bady Dalloul: Self-portrait with a cat I don’t have, where participants learn to observe artworks through key design elements including line, shape, form, space, texture, tone, and color.

After selecting an artwork to study, participants move to a quiet workspace to write about their chosen piece. The writing process will be structured in three stages:

  • Observation: State only what is seen in the artwork, without interpretation or emotional response.

  • Analysis: Consider the possible intentions, emotions, or ideas the artist is communicating.

  • Interpretation: Reflect on your own response to the work and its impact.

The workshop concludes with an opportunity to share your writing and discuss insights with the group.

Free to attend. All materials are provided. No prior art or writing experience is necessary.
