Work Description

Lara Favaretto’s site specific installation Blue Velvet consists of outsize, automated car wash brushes, spinning occasionally against metal plates. Favaretto’s work is both playful and monumental; Blue velvet has a note of transience as the continuous movement of the brushes will, over time, gradually wear themselves out while marking the metal plates.Favaretto is particularly interested in exploring how everyday objects that appear ordinary and carefree at first glance can actually reveal darker themes of futility, tragedy and decay.
