Communications Manager

Job Description

The Communications Manager role at Art Jameel addresses the need for a strategic, integrated and global approach to communications for our growing arts organisation. Based at Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, the role focuses on developing and managing communications strategies that highlight Art Jameel’s initiatives worldwide, while ensuring strong local presence and audience growth in the UAE.

The Manager will work closely with colleagues at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah to align strategies across centres, integrating them into a cohesive and streamlined plan that builds local audiences for our programmes and raises international awareness of our work and of the artists and communities we support. A key focus is on press engagement and positioning Art Jameel as a leading cultural voice across geographies.

The role requires a keen awareness of online platforms and outreach, both for digital programmes and for amplifying the work of our centres and initiatives worldwide.

The Manager is supported by social media managers based in Jeddah and Dubai, as well as graphic designers, occasional agencies and consultants during particular projects or peak periods.

Senior Manager, Publishing and Content

 Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support with and oversee end-to-end communications strategies and schedules, from broad, long-term frameworks to specific project-based activation plans
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Publishing & Content, to manage the annual communications budget, delivering strategies and plans within set resources
  • Advise and collaborate closely with colleagues at Hayy Jameel (Jeddah) to co-develop and implement communications strategies that integrate both centres into a cohesive and streamlined global plan
  • Support on global press outreach and relationship-building: strengthen and expand networks of international journalists, critics, editors, and thought leaders, while deepening regional media connections within the GCC and wider Arab world
  • Support a growing, bilingual communications team spanning Dubai and Jeddah, including social media managers, designers, agencies and consultants
  • Build and implement strategies for digital outreach and online engagement, including audiovisual deliverables on social media and digital platforms, ensuring consistent growth in reach and impact across platforms.
  • Manage content strategy and delivery for Art Jameel’s websites, newsletters, press materials, and publications, ensuring accuracy, clarity and alignment with organisation’s priorities
  • Support with and oversee media partnerships, advertising campaigns and promotional strategies for Art Jameel’s centres and initiatives
  • Support Exhibitions, Learning and Programmes team in partner engagement campaigns, and highlight collaborations and joint ventures with collaborators and institutional partners
  • Act as representative of Art Jameel to external audiences: deliver presentations, introductions, tours and briefings, and ensure consistent messaging in all public-facing engagements
  • Support Senior Manager, Publishing and Content on promoting internal awareness and training on communications strategies, brand guidelines and messaging to ensure alignment across the organisation

Qualifications / Experience

  • Several years (minimum 6) of in-house and/or agency experience
  • Experience in devising and running communications campaigns and timelines, managing
  • teams and workflows, working to deadline and budget
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience in devising and developing content across
  • print and overseeing the production and delivery of video and other digital content
  • Motivated, energetic, results-driven team player, used to working within a fast-paced,
  • hands-on ‘start-up’ mode
  • A developed network of local, regional and international media relationships that can be
  • built on within the Art Jameel context
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage A-Z multiple campaigns and competing
  • priorities
  • Desirable: Experience of working in an arts institution, NGO or equivalent
  • Preferred: Fluency in English and Arabic (both reading and writing)

Conditions of Work

  • This is a full-time position based in Dubai, UAE, with occasional travel to Jeddah, Saudi
  • Arabia, and elsewhere
  • Occasional weekend and evening work according to events and programmes is as required
