General Accountant

Location: Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai

Contract Type: Project-based (3-6 Months)

 Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive General Accountant for a 3-6 month project-based engagement at Jameel Arts Centre. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Finance Department across core accounting functions, inventory and retail operations, and tax compliance. This role requires strong analytical capabilities, familiarity with accounting systems including Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Shopify, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, arts-focused environment. The ideal candidate thrives in collaborative settings, meets tight deadlines with precision, and contributes to process improvements with professionalism and integrity

Responsibilities:

Financial:

Support Assistant Finance Manager and Senior Accountant in:

  • Preparation of monthly closing and reporting of accounts as per setup deadlines
  • Preparation of Yearly Closing and Audit Files and Analysis
  • Preparing JVs, PVs, Artist Fee and Employees Cash Float payments, etc., in line with company policies and procedures
  • Handling cash, cheque, and bank transfer payments
  • Ensuring cash and safe balances are correctly reflected in the Company’s Financial Book
  • Implementing all policies and procedures issued and approved by management (e.g., MOAAR, HR Policy Manual)
  • Recording Expense Reports and/or reimbursements for all Employees
  • Ensuring proper documentation for all work performed
  • Suggesting improvements to workflows and controls without disrupting operations
  • Willingness to work overtime when required
  • Ability to finalize work within tight deadlines

 Inventory: Artist Books

Support Assistant Finance Manager and Senior Accountant in:

  • Preparing, monitoring, and following up on Inventory, including purchases and adherence to physical inventory count procedures
  • Maintaining accurate Inventory records and ensuring proper documentation in the company’s financial books

 Retail Shop

Support Assistant Finance Manager and Senior Accountant in:

  • Preparing, monitoring, and following up on stock control, purchases, retail sales processing, and stock physical count procedures
  • Conducting quarterly Retail Shop Stock Inventory and investigating discrepancies
  • Adding and returning products in the Vend System
  • Reconciling monthly Purchase-in-Transit with the Inventory Stock account
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly Consignment Reports
  • Reconciling Daily Sales with credit card merchant advice from the bank
  • Checking monthly Deemed Supplies and recording Output VAT for VAT Return filing
  • Preparing the Retail Shop Quarterly Report to be shared with the Retail Shop Team

 Tax Planning, Compliance, and Audit

  • Supporting Assistant Finance Manager and Senior Accountant in timely and accurate filing of all tax declarations
  • Ensuring compliance with tax and other regulatory bodies for reporting, filing, and audit
  • Providing Assistant Finance Manager and Senior Accountant with feedback on significant staff-related matters, work issues, or interdepartmental concerns

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in general accounting, preferably in the arts, retail, or non-profit sectors
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
  • Preferably familiar with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for financial operations and reporting
  • Working knowledge of Shopify, especially for retail and inventory reconciliation
  • Strong understanding of UAE VAT regulations and compliance procedures
  • Experience in inventory management and reconciliation
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication skills in English; Arabic is a plus
  • High level of integrity and professionalism

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or CMA
  • Experience working in cultural institutions or arts organizations
  • Familiarity with Vend POS system and inventory platforms
  • Knowledge of IFRS and UAE financial reporting standards
  • Demonstrated ability to suggest process improvements and implement financial controls
