Learning Assistant

The Learning Assistant supports the Learning team to create interdisciplinary learning experiences at the Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; organises and leads tours for visiting schools, universities and adult groups; creates lesson plans and Drop In activities that integrate permanent collection works and temporary and leads guided discussions; supports major events such as seasonal camps for children, Ramadan Nights, Creative Careers Days and Down to Earth.

This position is suited to an artist, creative or educational professional with experience in imagining, devising and running learning programming. The ideal candidate is proficient in English (Arabic language desirable) and UAE-based.

Accountability

Reports to the Learning Manager 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Create original, engaging, interdisciplinary learning programmes for all ages with a focus on children and young people
  • Lead on guided, on-site education programming including school field trips and university visits
  • See programmes through from start to final fruition such as developing bi-montly workshops, monthly drop in zones for children, organising special tours and workshops for visiting school students
  • Reporting to the Learning Manager and Learning Coordinator, the role involves working closely alongside the Visitor Experience, Design, Events, Operations and Communications teams at Jameel Arts Centre
  • Assist on the development of Spring Camp, Ramadan Nights, Creative Careers Days and Down to Earth festival among other programmes
  • Oversee relevant special learning events on-site
  • Work on Admin related tasks for events
  • Facilitate and assist after school club, adults workshops/ masterclasses, seasonal camps, among other programmes
  • Manage the learning team’s storage, inventory and support in purchasing needs for the learning team
  • Develop monthly Family Saturdays at the Jameel programme from activities sheets, videos to delivery
  • Monitoring of the Learning email account and responding to enquiries
  • Devise and coordinate programming for special needs participants and audiences 
  • Other duties as management deem fit

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience in similar role at a museum, educational or creative institution
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team-spirit and enthusiastic, professional attitude, excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, fostering meaningful connections with visitors, colleagues, and artists alike
  • Independent thinking and the ability to generate creative solutions, while also being open to collaborative input and feedback
  • Attention to detail with the ability to step back to see implications for the bigger picture

Conditions of Work

  • Occasional weekend and evening work according to workload is as required
