Learning Coordinator
The Learning Coordinator leads and develops interdisciplinary learning experiences and resources at the Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; trains and schedules docents to provide guided museum experiences; devises and leads tours for visiting school and adult groups; creates lesson plans that integrate permanent collection works and temporary exhibitions into curricula of local and regional schools; works with artists and facilitators to develop adult workshops and masterclasses; lead supporter of Creative Careers Days (CCD) event and microsite schedule and event.
This position is suited to arts educational professionals with experience in imagining, devising and running learning programming.
The ideal candidate is proficient in English (Arabic language desirable) and UAE-based.
Accountability
Reports to the Learning Manager and Deputy Director, Learning and Research
Bigger Picture
- Develop networks and active relationships with schools to facilitate connections with young people and ensure their presence and active participation in our programmes.
- Developing and designing learning experiences within select large footfall-generating initiatives such as Ramadan Nights and Down to Earth.
- Contribute to expanding young people’s understanding of the arts by making, learning intimately the process behind art making, and understanding the different roles within the arts ecosystem.
- See programmes through, from start to final fruition, including collaborating with facilitators and freelancers and engaging and developing relationships with suitable partners.
- Assessing, expanding and improving growth and development of on-site education programmes.
- Reporting to the Learning Manager, the role involves working closely alongside the Visitor Experience, Events, Outreach, Operations and Communications teams at Jameel Arts Centre.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Target the public beginning at primary ages and continuing through to post-graduate adults through engaging workshops and learning programmes:
- Bi-monthly learning workshops for families, children, juniors and teens
- Host artist-led children’s seasonal camp for ages 6-12 at Jameel Arts Centre
- Implement adult courses/ workshops at Jameel Arts Centre
- Introduce After School Club gatherings for teens at Jameel Arts Centre
- Key tasks for Creative Careers Days include:
- Co-developing Creative Careers Days event programme
- Coordinating logistics and planning with participants, schools, and visitors
- Coordinate year-long programmes for Creative Careers Days microsite and mentorship schedule
- Lead on CCD Roadshow and off-site presence across the Emirates
- Lead on all learning programmes for on-site large events such as Creative Careers Days, Ramadan Nights, and Down to Earth
- Contribute to developing learning resources
- Lead on the development and implementation of new learning strategies
- Train and schedule team members, freelancers and volunteers on leading tours, events and workshops; produce scripts and guided museum experiences for visiting school and adult groups
- Deliver tours for school and university groups
- Oversee relevant special events on-site and bi-monthly workshops
Internal Management and Admin
- Coordinate large-scale events, including communication with facilitators and administrative tasks.
- Conduct primary and secondary research where relevant to a project
- Take responsibility for the evaluation, growth and development of on-site education programmes
- Devise and manage budgets for relevant projects
- Create programme-specific internal and external reports and presentations
- Assist with off-site educational programming, including outreach programmes
- Create innovative and thoughtful learning resources for teachers and children
- Other duties as management deems fit
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in similar roles at a museum, educational or creative institution
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Team spirit and enthusiastic, professional attitude; the ability to lead and manage projects
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, fostering meaningful connections with visitors, colleagues, and artists alike
- Independent thinking and the ability to generate creative solutions while also being open to collaborative input and feedback
- Attention to detail with the ability to step back to see implications for the bigger picture
Conditions of Work
- This is a full-time position based in Dubai, UAE
- Occasional weekend and evening work according to workload is as required
