The Jameel Library is pleased to be hosting its first talk this Wednesday November 28, held by Campus Art Dubai (CAD) alumni Saba Qizilbash. CAD is Art Dubai’s intensive five-month course for UAE-based artists, writers, curators and cultural producers and the opportunity to develop practices under the mentorship of world renowned tutors. Art Jameel is the programme’s curatorial partner for 2017-2018.
As the first recipient of the CAD grant supported by both Art Dubai and Art Jameel, and initiated by CAD 5.0 members, Saba will be discussing her experience and its impact on her larger practice, which looks at how urban infrastructure approaches disputed lands and understandings of territory.
Saba Qizilbash is an artist based in Dubai, whose frequent visits to Pakistan and India has led her to operate in a transnational space. Born in 1977 in Lahore and raised in the UAE, Saba Qizilbash subsequently went on to receive her BFA degree at the National College of Art, Lahore and her MA in Art Education from the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2018, she was one of the finalists of the Sovereign Asian Art Prize, as well as a participant of UAE Unlimited. Saba has shown in New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Lahore and Karachi, and has held numerous community workshops.
