Work Description

Formal and material experimentation are at the heart of Ayesha Sultana’s practice.  Grid I and Untitled, both part of the Art Jameel Collection, are monochromatic graphite drawings oscillating between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space, playing with texture and light to create the illusion of a metal sheen.  Through this material transformation, Ayesha refers to the repetition of gesture and mark-making in her practice as a “verb” – a practice in motion and an artwork in action.
