    Jameel Prize: Poetry to Politics

    Jameel Arts Centre hosts the sixth edition (titled ‘Poetry to Politics’) of the Jameel Prize, the first to have a focus on contemporary design. The exhibition debuted at the V&A in London, and has toured to Centro Cultural La Moneda in Santiago, Chile and El Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes Franklin Rawson in Argentina, before arriving “home” in the UAE.

    A research display by Another Empty House that delves into the rise of vacant domestic houses in Kerala and explores the economic, patriarchal, and capitalist behaviours that have contributed to this phenomenon. The collective’s research methodology includes collecting and mapping tropes in film, advertising, YouTube videos, and oral histories.

    Artist’s Garden: Samur by Zheng Bo

    For his Artist’s Garden commission, Bo choreographed a dance with two human dancers and a Samur tree growing in the Mleiha desert in Sharjah as a way to understand and reconnect with the land and the tree. The performance is presented here as a film installation, presented at the Jameel, set within a landscape of indigenous plants that thrive in the desert
