And I Must Go is a film directed by Assembly member Nabeeha Sajjad as part of (un)cooked. Snippets of the film are thoughtfully integrated as part of her installation for the 2024 Youth Takeover, offering glimpses into the narrative.
As part of the evening, the full film will be screened, followed by a panel discussion and distribution of a mini zine that echoes the photobook accompanying the film. Moderated by Sophie Ziai and featuring the production team behind the film, Ala Kheir, Makki Rashid, Nabeeha Sajjad and Sarwa Abdul, the panellists will delve into the process of bringing the film to life, sharing their insights and experiences throughout the production journey. The conversation aims to celebrate the convergence of independent cinema and alternative publishing, fostering dialogue and embracing diverse perspectives within the creative community, sparking multidisciplinary interests.

Ala Kheir is a Sudanese photographer, curator, educator and filmmaker. Through photography, Ala creates personal narratives about his immediate environment, particularly Khartoum, the city where he grew up. His practice employs a subtle approach to address the complexity of the city, as well as the socio-economic issues that are shaping Sudan. His work has recently been exhibited at Reframing Neglect, London, Milan, New York, 2022-2023; By the River, Jakarta International Photography Festival, 2022; Green April, Kigali Photo Festival, 2019; The Periphery, Lagos Photo Festival, 2018; Collectivism, with Invisible Borders, FOAM, Amsterdam, 2017; Revisiting Khartoum, African Capitals, Paris, 2017. Ala is the founder of the Other Vision photography platform, active in photography education, archiving and development in Sudan.
Makki Rashid is an accomplished cinematographer and steadycam operator with over nine years of industry experience across feature films, documentaries, and commercials for TV and social media. Renowned for his ability to capture visually captivating scenes, Makki employs innovative techniques in lighting, camera operation, composition, and framing to bring stories to life. His collaborative and versatile approach sees him closely working with directors and production teams to achieve the desired visual aesthetic, making his mark as a master storyteller through the lens.
Nabeeha Sajjad is a Dubai-based multimedia artist and creative producer. She brings concepts to life through her experimental work, blending philosophy, photography, film and design to craft visual and compelling narratives. With her boundless creativity and diverse background, she continuously pushes boundaries, redefining the art of storytelling.
Sarwa Abdul is a multidisciplinary artist driven by her passion for crafting immersive worlds and narratives. At her core, she is a storyteller, sculpting concepts from the raw material of the world around her. Through her art, she invites viewers to embark on a journey of discovery, encouraging them to explore the layers of meaning woven into each piece.
