  • Text and Textile: I dreamt I wove a lilac sky

This workshop was conceived as part of the Assembly 2020 Youth Takeover public programme and is delivered by artist Zuhoor Al Sayegh. Limited capacity, first-come first-serve basis. Kindly RSVP to the workshop and successful registrations will receive details and instructions for joining the session.

In this online cross-medium session, textile artist Zuhoor Al Sayegh invites participants to join a call in which each introduce a piece of textile that carries significance to them. With a writing prompt, the artist guides participants to explore through text, their relationship to textile along with its historical and cultural nuances. The session engages with the emotional and sensorial aspects of textile: texture, smell, color and story. How do we write about them?

Zuhoor Al Sayegh is an interdisciplinary artist based in the United Arab Emirates. Al Sayegh graduated with a BFA from the fine arts department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2019 specialising in textile. Following her graduation Al Sayegh participated in a residency program at The Textile Art Center in New York, with Yto Barrada as her mentor. Al Sayegh finds herself mostly inspired by movement and stories. She explores these foundations through her work in fibers and ceramics.
