Children’s Workshop: From Story to Trace… From Trace to Story by Nagham Hammoush and Life in Arabic

This workshop will be led in the Arabic language. To learn more please visit the Arabic event page here.

A children’s workshop led by artist and educator Nagham Hammoush in collaboration with Life in Arabic, founded by founder of Dardasha, Reem Makdour. Inspired by the practice of Jumana Emil Abboud, this workshop explores the relationship between storytelling, nature and memory through movement, sensation and trace.

Participants begin by creating simple marks and patterns, connecting them to elements from nature. Through guided exploration, these marks are translated into movement and then into visual traces.

This hands-on workshop invites participants to reflect on how traces can become vessels for storytelling, while gently introducing simple Arabic vocabulary through art, movement, and nature.

This workshop is free to attend and is suitable for individuals and families of all ages.

About Nagham:

Nagham Hammoush is a Syrian-German multidisciplinary artist. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Damascus (2013) and an MA in Art in Context from the Berlin University of the Arts (2022). Her practice focuses on participatory and interactive art, engaging with themes of identity, belonging, and gender, alongside her work in art education and cultural mediation. She explores the role of printmaking within contemporary art through its integration into performance and installation practices, investigating repetition and reproduction as tools that reflect memory, the rhythm of the body, and lived experience.

About Dardasha

Dardasha is a Dubai-based Arabic early language development brand dedicated to making Arabic playful, accessible, and deeply rooted in everyday life for children aged 0–6. Through thoughtfully designed books, toys, and experiences, Dardasha positions Arabic not as a subject to be learned, but as a language to be lived. Developed by parents and grounded in research, Dardasha blends education with creativity to help children build strong language foundations while fostering confidence, cultural connection, and a lifelong love for Arabic.

Life in Arabic initiative

“Life in Arabic” is an immersive, community-driven initiative wherein Dardasha partners with local businesses to deliver Arabic-led workshops through hands-on experiences. Through multi-sensory, play-based engagement, the initiative strengthens vocabulary retention, builds positive emotional connections to the language, and fosters a deeper sense of identity and belonging within the Arab cultural context. It is designed to help children and families experience Arabic as a living language by embedding it into meaningful, real-life moments.
