Jaddaf Aloud Online is a virtual programme designed to celebrate homegrown creative talent and provide opportunities for local audiences to engage and support through a series of activations starting Sunday, April 19, 2020. With Jameel Arts Centre’s public programming, Ramadan initiatives and schools’ and family workshops ‘on pause’ at this time, Jaddaf Aloud Online has been designed to bring creative DIY projects, music, shopping, performance and food into your home. (The festival itself will return as a physical event in our Sculpture Park, we hope, on Friday, November 20, 2020.) New content is being released daily: there is always something fun to do or explore!
The full schedule is available here.
Make
Jaddaf Aloud Online has invited UAE-based artists to design and lead interactive projects for kids, teens and adults, using materials readily available at home. Sessions — many led by practitioners who collaborate regularly with Jameel Arts Centre — include crafts, art projects and mindfulness exercises. Access workshops here by Gulf Photo Plus, Eman AlHashemi, KAVE-The Story of Things, Asma Khoory, Natalya Konforti, Faissal El-Malak, Sara Masinaei, Rania Naccour, Jameel Assembly member Daniel Rey, Marwan Shakarchi, Malda Smadi and Nahla Al Tabbaa.
Listen
Highlighting homegrown UAE-based talent, Jaddaf Aloud Online presents a headline act by Sound of Nomads on Monday, April 20 at 8pm (UAE time), performing a live 30-minute set of acoustic covers and originals from his home. Additionally, a special showcase featuring Emerging Musicians and Composers brings together 6 original instrumental compositions from across the UAE by Hana Boukhris, David Dukov, Ibrahim Al Junaibi, Klip Lester, Majd Al Sabbah and Leendert van’t Riet, and with the UAE offering no shortage of talented musicians, composers, DJs and talent-filled venues, Art Jameel’s team has picked some of their favourites for you to check out at home. Visit the directory here.
Shop
This directory aims to support UAE-based artisans, shops and homegrown businesses, carefully selected via Art Jameel Shop, Jaddaf Aloud market and (our previously planned) Ramadan Souk. Featured vendors have been cherry-picked with an emphasis on artisanal goods, handmade items and seasonal novelty products. To connect with local makers and businesses, visit the directory here.
Eat
Jameel Arts Centre has collaborated with Frying Pan Adventures, Dubai’s pioneering food and culture walking tour organisers, to create a downloadable guide of small-yet-dynamic local eateries that highlights the diversity of UAE food culture. All selected eateries provide home delivery services.
Watch
Partnering with Analog Room, Dubai’s landmark electronic and live music venue, Jaddaf Aloud Online brings you a series of single-screenings streaming critically-acclaimed audiovisual experimental films produced by artists internationally. Typically reserved for film and music festivals, these films are being made available for one online screening as part of the Jaddaf Aloud Online programme.
